Pictures from the Painted House, an exhibit by artist, Diane Woodward opens at the Arts Centre Hastings, in Madoc, on November 27th and runs to December 6th. The colourful exhibition is Woodward’s first public show in Madoc and will be a rare treat for locals and visitors alike.

Woodward, who has lived in Montreal and Ottawa, now makes Madoc her home. She has had a number of exhibitions in Ottawa and Toronto, including Wild, featuring 100 of her huge, bright animal paintings at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. As “Uma the Painter,” she has traveled to India, Bahamas and Northern Quebec, painting pictures in temples at those locations.

Her home, ‘the Painted House’ has been featured on TV’s “Weird Homes,” “On the Road Again” with Wayne Ronstadt and “Regional Contact.” Her work has been featured in the magazines: Capital Style, Ottawa City, Desi, Ottawa Magazine, Canadian House and Home, Ottawa Interiors and the Toronto Star’s Décor.

Pictures from the Painted House is a perfect offering for Arts Centre Hastings new eco facility. Bright, large paintings of animals, people, and gods will provide an exciting contrast to the natural strawbale walls of the new Centre. Amongst the larger offerings, visitors will find Ukrainian Easter eggs, small ornate paintings, and sculptures made of reclaimed materials. Some distinctive fine craft, Christmas ornaments and wiggle fish will round out the presentation and offer visitors a multi-sensory experience.

Arts Centre Hastings is located at the Centre Hastings Park in Madoc. The Centre is in a unique position to offer its audiences the opportunity to enjoy music, dance, theatre, and literary and visual arts in a uniquely sustainable building that stimulates the senses. Those in the know, call it perhaps the most sustainable and unusual building in all of Canada. From its straw bale walls, to its geothermal heat exchange system, to its radiant floor and ‘living roof,’ Arts Centre Hastings is an amazing feat of engineering, creativity and sustainability.

Pictures from the Painted House is open to the public, admission is free and school tours are welcome.
